Gentleman and Uncle

–by Vijaya Krishna

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this, on hearing about the demise of Mr. K.G. Appusamy – the universal “Uncle” to one and all.

If ever the word “gentleman” is applicable in its true and whole meaning, surely no other deserved it more than Uncle Naidu. “Gentle” by nature, speech and in his interactions with one and all, he truly was more than a mere “Man”. Yes, a gentleman to the core he always was and will so remain in all our hearts, forever. Truly it has been a great and rare honor and privilege to have known him and to have walked in his shadow – alas, but no more.

I know not whether to sob for the loved one we lost or to smile for the happy memories he left us to remember him by–smile I must, though my heart is aching, as this is a celebration of a rare life.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade, because a loved one is gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long there is a memory, they will live on in our hearts.

We that were fortunate to have known him and his love, are indeed lucky to have a memory that no one can steal from us, but his Death leaves a heartache
 no one can heal.

Even though we can’t see, hear or touch him anymore, we will never forget how he touched us all, in his own way.

With fond memories, I bid you farewell, this one last time, Uncle Naidu.
